Solar Taxi

“She Dies With Beautiful Teeth” – the new EP from Solar Taxi sounds like a band that have landed on their feet. From the catchy opening electro pop of “The Fool” to the soulful acoustic “White Lights” , this diverse EP takes the listener on a journey that’s very different to anything that’s in Ireland at the moment. Their influences range from Goldfrapp, The Knife to 70’s guitar bands such as Led Zeppelin.

Solar Taxi grew from the meeting of singer Aisling Browne and bassist and production maestro, Peter Vogelaar. The pair are well seasoned performers, having toured and recorded with many artists over the years (you may recognise Aisling from singing harmony with Katie Kim). The combined talents on their early recordings caught the attentions of legendary folk-king John Martyn, he quickly became a mentoring figure in their musical developments, offering advice and support to the band, of the experience with legend of folk, the band say “We had the great pleasure of being in John’s company as we had some some mutual friends in music” explains the band, “he was such a big influence, it was definitely a morale booster!”

Solar Taxi really came to life in early 2010, as both members were busy with other musical adventures, wanting to get back out on the road and get gigging again, hitting various venues around the country.

Encouraged by the reaction to the bands early gigs Solar Taxi had a productive three months from April to June 2010 releasing two download singles with remixes from Denmark’s Frederik Olufsen (who features on E4′s misfits soundtrack) and the Turkish DJ Soydan. These singles got thumbs up from the likes of Tom Findlay (Groove Armada), Timo Maas “the original mix is a great track” & Philadelphia Weekly: “I truly hope that the original mix makes its way to ‘alternative’ radio here in the U.S. The radio in the states needs fresh sounds like this..”

In Summer ’10 the pair decided to augment the band to include James O’Halloran on guitar & John Foley on Drums. “it was like finding two very large jigsaw puzzle pieces that were missing all along…not only does the 4-piece line up give us the freedom to develop songs ‘organically’ , it allows us to wear our 70′s influences on our sleeve, music that we grew up listening to, that’s very close to our hearts..”

…infectious, thumping & glorious for starters. With a start as strong as this, we can’t wait to hear where they go” The Star

“Featuring the very sexy flame-haired, guitar-toting Aisling Browne on vocals, Waterford quartet Solar Taxi cut a fine line between uptown Brooklyn electro funk and downtown scuzz rock. And they do it very effectively indeed, gathering momentum as the hottest thing on the Waterford scene since O Emperor shot out of the traps. ” – “a band we seriously recommend you catch while they’re still in their salad days, because, if there’s any justice on this fickle eared planet, they’re gonna blow up like a bouncy castle at a big fat gypsy communion party” Hotpress
